AMTD Distributed 100,000 Masks Free of Charge to Support the Healthy Life of Hong Kong Residents

As the COVID-19 epidemic persists, in an effort to support Hong Kong residents in their fight against COVID‐19 and stay healthy, AMTD Group and AMTD Foundation leveraged their global network and purchased a total of 100,000 masks from Japan, South Korea and other countries. These masks were distributed to residents free of charge at different locations to support Hong Kong communities and people in need.

On February 11, Calvin Choi, Chairman and CEO of AMTD Group and Founder & Chairman of AMTD Foundation, led volunteer staffs of AMTD Group and AMTD Foundation to distribute the first batch of 20,000 masks, umbrellas, raincoats and other daily necessities to more than 2,000 local elders aged 65 or above at Southorn Playground in Wan Chai and MacPherson Playground in Mong Kok. To avoid elders from long waiting time or early queuing, we've only announced location and timing details two hours in advance, thus minimizing the queuing time. AMTD has also cooperated with the Hong Kong Playground Association to set up the distribution stations at Southorn Playground in Wan Chai and MacPherson Playground in Mong Kok, ensuring that we are taking all precautions to prevent/minimize long waiting and unnecessary troubles to elders.

"Hong Kong is our home," said Calvin Choi, Chairman and CEO of AMTD Group and Founder & Chairman of AMTD Foundation. “We hope that we can do our best to contribute to the community, charity and public welfare. We Hong Kong citizens need to fight COVID-19 together and stay healthy!”

After the outbreak of COVID-19 in Wuhan, AMTD Group and AMTD Foundation responded immediately and donated RMB 2 million to Hubei Red Cross Foundation in China. At the same time, our expat staffs in Japan, Europe and other countries helped source for medical supplies and suppliers from around the world to solve medical supplies shortage in the center of the epidemic, Hubei. In addition, AMTD has also sourced 100,000 medical masks worldwide and delivered them to Hong Kong in batches for distribution to communities and people in need in Hong Kong.
