Representatives of AMTD Group and AMTD Foundation were appointed to the Council of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and were selected as “Outstanding Alumni” honors, respectively, to further deepen AMTD’s strategy of school-enterprise cooperation and talent cultivation in Greater Bay Area

 

A few days ago, Mr. Sin Yat-kin, Deputy Director of AMTD Foundation, recipient of Silver Bauhinia Star (SBS) and Hong Kong Correctional Services Distinguished Service Medal (CSDSM) was appointed to the Council of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. The Council of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University is the governing body of the University, and it comprises the President and Deputy President of the University, and members from business and professional sectors. As a representative of AMTD Group and AMTD Foundation, Mr. Sin Yat-kin was appointed to the Council of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, to further support and participate in the innovation and development of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and deepen the cooperation and communication between AMTD Group, AMTD Foundation and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

Mr. Marcellus Wong, Vice Chairman of AMTD Group, Director of AMTD Foundation was appointed as the “12th Outstanding PolyU Alumni” in recognition of his outstanding achievement in the field of economy and finance of Hong Kong, as well his contributions to the society and the Hong Kong polytechnic University.

Mr. Marcellus Wong is a senior financial and tax expert in Hong Kong. He now is Vice Chairman of AMTD Group, Director of AMTD Foundation, Chairman of Advisory Board of the Taxation Institute of Hong Kong. Mr. Wong is also a member of the Joint Liaison Committee on Taxation that advises the government of Hong Kong on tax issues. Mr. Marcellus Wong has over 40 years of experience in accounting and taxation, and he was a partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers and was the firm’s Head of Tax Risk and Quality for the Tax practice in Asia Pacific. He served as the President of Taxation Institute of Hong Kong and as President of CPA Australia – Greater China Division. He has been consistently named as one of the World’s Leading Tax Advisers in Hong Kong and the China by Euromoney. He was Adjunct Professor at School of Accounting and Finance of PolyU.

Mr. Sin Yat-kin has a high reputation in Hong Kong's political and business community. He has served as the Commissioner of Correctional Services of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the Deputy Manager of the campaign office of Mrs. Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor. He was awarded the "Silver Bauhinia Star" and "Hong Kong Correctional Services Distinguished Service Medals", “Hong Kong Correctional Services Long Service Medal”, “Chief Executive's Commendation for Public Service” and other honors issued by the Hong Kong SAR Government. Mr. Sin Yat-kin joined the Hong Kong Correctional Services Department since 1979 and has served in the Correctional Services Department in Hong Kong for nearly 37 years. He has made tremendous contributions to correctional profession which promotes anti-corruption and discipline in Hong Kong. Mr. Sin Yat-kin also participated in the co-hosting of the Hong Kong Equestrian Events for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. During this period, he performed outstandingly and was awarded the Chief Executive's Commendation for Public Service. Mr. Sin Yat-kin has joined AMTD since 2018 as Chief of Staff, responsible for the company's internal management and employees’ professional service and discipline, and appointed as Deputy Director of AMTD Foundation to promote aiding education and social welfare.

During 2018 World Economic Forum annual event at Davos, AMTD Group and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University jointly established 「AMTD FinTech Centre of PolyU Faculty of Business」

On April 2018, Prof. Timothy W. Tong, former President of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Mr. Calvin Choi, Chairman and CEO of AMTD Group, Mr. Marcellus Wong, Director of AMTD Foundation, Mr. Sin Yat-kin, Deputy Director of AMTD Foundation, Professor Wilson Tong, Director of the FinTech Centre jointly launched “AMTD FinTech Centre of PolyU Faculty of Business”. Mr. Nicholas W. Yang, GBS, JP, Secretary for Innovation and Technology of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and Dr. Annie Wu, SBS, JP, former Standing Committee Member of CPPCC, Lifetime Honorary Board Member of the World Trade Centres, also attended and witnessed the ceremony.

On October 2018, during Hong Kong FinTech Week, as the sole strategic partner, AMTD, InvestHK and AMTD Fintech Centre of PolyU Faculty of Business co-hosted “FinTech and Beyond”

AMTD Group, AMTD Foundation and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University have established a profound friendship and cooperation, and carried out multi-level cooperation and exchanges in financial technology, academic research, and talent incubation. On December 2017, at the PolyU 80th anniversary Celebration Dinner, under the witness of Ms. Carrie Lam, Chief Executive of HKSAR and Mr. Paul Chan Mo-po, Financial Secretary, Mr. Calvin Choi, Chairman and President of AMTD Group, signed a strategic partnership memorandum with Professor Timothy W. Tong, President of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Dr. Patrick Poon, President of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University Foundation and Prof. T.C. Edwin Cheng, Dean of the Faculty of Business, to enhance university-industry collaboration, promote technology development, especially the development of financial technology in Hong Kong, and to support the education for innovative talents. On April 2018, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), AMTD Group Company and AMTD Foundation jointly launch Hong Kong’s first university-industry collaborated Financial Technology (FinTech) centre ——“AMTD FinTech Centre of PolyU Faculty of Business”. The FinTech Centre will conduct FinTech related research, consultancy and training projects for the financial industry, provide support to start-ups, facilitate exchanges among local, Chinese mainland and overseas experts, and offer FinTech education for students, financial personnel, and the public. Meanwhile, the AMTD FinTech Centre will lead the innovative technology and research in Hong Kong to engage in the exchange, education, and research in Mainland by establishing branches or centres in Mainland. The Centre will carry out the academic exchange, university-industry collaboration and curriculum development with Mainland institutions, universities and enterprises to support the training, research and technology industry in Greater Bay Area and across the country and to promote the development of Greater Bay Area. On October 2018, during Hong Kong FinTech Week, as the sole strategic partner, AMTD Group co-hosted “AMTD Innovation Hub Tour” and “FinTech and Beyond” with InvestHK and AMTD FinTech Centre of PolyU Faculty of Business, to discuss the innovation and development of Fintech in Hong Kong together with the FinTech experts, industry investment leaders and education experts from globally.
